The most common symptoms associated with sciatica is pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve, from the lower back and down the leg, however, the symptoms can vary depending on where the sciatic nerve is affected. Some people with sciatica may experience a mild tingling, pain, or burning sensation, usually on one side of the body.
To relieve the pain of sciatica, try acupuncture at home and put a tennis ball under you in a small hole at the bottom where your sciatic pain can often be. Rolling a ball around using your body weight to apply pressure, hold for about ten seconds. It elevates muscles pressing and squeezing the sciatic nerve. If your sciatica is still not responding to treatment within three months, your doctor may recommend more aggressive treatment. This may include corticosteroid injections, which help to reduce inflammation, or surgery. Surgery is usually left as a last resort when no other treatment worked or when serious complications have developed.
